Media representatives and reporters are cordially invited to cover the Sixth Conference on Arab Education

-“Towards the Re-organization of Arab Education-Structure, Subject Matter and Curricula”:
taking place on April 15, 2004, at 2:00pm in the Cultural Center in Nazareth.

Among the conference participants and speakers are: Mayors and Heads of Local Councils and Departments of Education, Academics, Researchers, Ministry of Education Representatives, Educators, School Principals, Knesset Members, and representatives of NGO’s in the field of education and human rights.

The Sixth Conference will engage in workshops, panels and discussions on the reorganization of the Arab Educational System in light of the fact that over 80% of the Arab public are dissatisfied with the present educational system and 90% are of the opinion that the system fails to meet the needs of the people it serves, and 76% are in favor of reform of curricula. Workshops will be held on the following topics:

 Outline of the present activities of The Follow-Up Committee on Arab Education
 An alternative structure for Arab Education: Educational and Cultural Policy
 The National Identity and Alternative Studies Program
 Implications of the Achievement Oriented Reality Pupils face today
 Criterion for Acceptance of Arab Students to Universities in Israel
This important event is held every five years for the purpose of holding discussions, workshops and lectures which centralize on the major and pivotal issues of Arab Education today. Consequently decisions and recommendations made will determine the Follow-Up committee’s future strategies for action.
